The Town of Guilderland and the Guilderland Chamber of Commerce are partnering on the fourth annual Hometown Heroes Banner Program that has gained local and national attention. The program proudly recognizes active The Town of Guilderland and the Guilderland Chamber of Commerce are partnering on the fourth annual Hometown Heroes Banner Program that has gained local and national attention. The program proudly recognizes active duty and veteran service members, both living and deceased. Each banner will honor a specific current or former Guilderland or Altamont serviceperson and will include their name, branch of service, and photo.
 
For 2021, we are expanding a limited run of the program to include our frontline Hometown Heroes including healthcare workers, teachers, and frontline staff who were on the frontline of the COVID-19 Pandemic. We will have 10 Banners open for frontline workers. Inclusion in banner program subject to review and approval by GCC Staff and Town discretion.
 
To qualify, an honoree must be:

  1. a current or former resident of Guilderland (including Altamont) and;
  2. serving on active duty in the United States Armed Forces or National Guard, OR a military veteran (living or deceased) who has served in the United States Armed Forces or National Guard and has been honorably discharged.
  3. OR worked in a frontline/essential job during the COVID-19 shutdown in 2020 (March 22 - May 31, 2020).
Starting in early Spring 2021, banners will be placed at Tawasentha Park, Guilderland Town Hall and various locations in Guilderland. Every request will be honored as placements are made available. The Town of Guilderland will place and maintain the banners while they are on display.
 
The banners will be on display from spring through fall. Opening and closing ceremonies to be determined and sponsors will be notified of details. In the Fall of 2021, the banners will be removed and presented to the family or sponsor. Upon family or sponsor request, banners can be moved inside to Crossgates.
 
Banners may be sponsored by individuals, families, businesses or organizations for $150 per banner. If you do not know a local serviceperson but would like to sponsor a banner, the Town and Chamber will pair you with an eligible honoree. If you would like to make an optional $10 donation to the Guilderland Food Pantry or Operation at Ease please note on the form. Click here to complete the form.
